Clinical Parent Training Groups
Our clinical parenting groups led by our child psychologists offer a short-term, convenient, and cost-effective solution to helping parents of children with challenging behaviors related to attention problems (ADHD/ADD), anxiety, sleep problems, autism, and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD).
Our Fall Groups are Now Enrolling!
Effective Solutions to Clinical Problems
We often work with families in need of general parenting and behavior strategies. We also work with many parents of children who experience clinical symptoms that significantly impact their day-to-functioning as well as their family’s overall wellness. Our parent groups are more than just a community of like-minded parents. We offer the same level of clinical care in our groups as in our individual programs. This means you can get the same treatment for half the price.

“Parents are the core of our work at Tampa Pediatric Psychology. We aim to empower parents with holistic and science-based knowledge so they can be the best resource for their child. The parents who work with us can expect fewer and less intense tantrums, less anxious children, reduced hyperactivity symptoms, fewer undesired behaviors, and decreased parental frustration.”
Our Groups
Supportive Parenting for Challenging Behaviors
This is a 5-week virtual group based on evidence-based treatments for managing challenging childhood behaviors. Parents will learn positive parenting strategies for behaviors related to sleeping, eating, following directions, temper tantrums, and calming down. Each session will utilize a combination of instruction and role-play to teach a variety of parenting skills aimed at improving your child's behavior. There will also be time each week dedicated to being able to interact with other parents regarding the shared experience of raising a child and the challenges that it presents. This group is for parents of children ages 2 to 8 years.
Supportive Parenting for Child Anxiety
This is an 8-week virtual group based on the evidence-based treatment, SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. Meetings will teach parents how to respond to their child’s anxiety in a supportive way, while also reducing accommodations they've been making for their child's anxiety. This group is appropriate for the most common anxiety disorders that children face including generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, separation anxiety, and social anxiety. This group is for parents of children ages 4 to 17 years.
Supportive Parenting for Teen ADHD
This is an 8-week group that teaches parent strategies for raising teens with ADHD. Meetings will help parents better understand their teen's ADHD symptoms and how to accommodate them at home and school. The parenting strategies taught aim to improve the child’s behavior, motivation, self-control, executive functioning, and self-esteem and the parent’s confidence in their ability to help their child. This group is for parents of children ages 11 to 19 years.
Parents with ADHD Parenting Children with ADHD
This is an 8-week group for parents of children with ADHD who also have ADHD themselves. Having ADHD puts a unique spin on parenting. Meetings will help parents take care of themselves, better understand behaviors characteristic of child and adult ADHD and the effective strategies for managing them, and provide a safe space for parents to share their challenges among a group of parents who understand and relate. This group is for parents/caregivers of children all ages. Parents who have ADHD, but their child does not, are also welcome.
Meet Dr. Kristin Edwards
“I have a passion for helping parents manage disruptive child behaviors so they can feel more confident, calm, and consistent in their approach to discipline, and overall more optimistic about parenting.”
A significant amount of my professional training and experience has been focused on challenging behaviors in young children. It is not uncommon for me to hear parents say, “I love my child, but it’s hard, because everything’s a fight.” I know that a simple diagnosis doesn’t begin to capture the stress a child’s behavior can put on a family, nor does it help families accurately understand their child or know how to effectively help them.
I truly enjoy helping parents understand their child’s behaviors so they are better able to solve behavior problems, and as a result, restore their family’s relationships and sanity.
