Finding Affordable Therapy
Being a young adult can be one of the most exciting yet challenging times in life. You’re building your future, whether through school, work, or both, while navigating relationships, identity, and independence. But with all those transitions can come stress, anxiety, and sometimes overwhelming pressure.
Unfortunately, mental health support can feel financially out of reach for many young people. However, there are organizations in our community that believe cost shouldn’t be a barrier to getting help. Whether you need someone to talk to for the first time or ongoing support, these local therapy resources offer free or reduced-fee counseling specifically designed to make care accessible.

How to Use This List
Finding affordable therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re already dealing with stress or burnout. This guide is meant to make the process easier. Here’s how to get the most out of it:
Identify Your Needs First
Decide whether you want in-person or online therapy.
Think about what you’d like to focus on (anxiety, relationships, trauma, life transitions, etc.).
Start with the Free Options
If cost is your main barrier, begin with places that offer completely free sessions (like The Centre).
Get on the waitlist early if one exists—spots can fill up fast.
Check Sliding-Scale & Reduced-Fee Programs
If you can pay a small amount, you’ll have more choices and possibly shorter wait times.
Ask if they offer student interns or group therapy, which are often much cheaper.
Contact Multiple Providers at Once
Don’t wait for one place to get back to you, reach out to 2–3 options.
This increases your chances of finding the right fit quickly.
Use Hotlines & Crisis Services if Needed
If you’re in crisis or feeling unsafe, call or text 988 right away.
They can connect you to immediate help and local resources.
Remember: You don’t have to wait until things feel “bad enough” to reach out. Therapy can be just as valuable for personal growth and everyday challenges as it is for crisis situations.
