Tampa Pediatric Psychology’s
Child & Adolescent
ADHD Program
Our Child & Adolescent ADHD treatment program is designed to empower both you and your child. By combining highly evidence-based interventions, we provide you with a structured, goal-oriented plan that has one simple goal: to equip you and your child with practical, effective tools that make everyday life with ADHD better.
You hold the power to helping your child succeed, you just need effective strategies for managing their attention problems.
If your child has ADHD, then they likely have a very difficult time staying focused, even on simple daily routines like getting dressed or brushing their teeth. It’s likely that you’re constantly reminding them what to do next, which they don’t respond well to, but they would fail if you stopped (literally—they would have missed a huge math test today if you didn’t check their class website last night).
The constant reminders, emotional outbursts and pushback have left you feeling drained and unsure of how to help. You worry about your child’s future and whether their challenges will continue to impact their relationships and school performance. More than anything, you just want to see them succeed and have a happy childhood, but their attention and behavioral issues seem to be standing in the way.
Don’t worry. You’re in the right place.

Why Our Program?
A multi-modal treatment for ADHD is important for several reasons. First, children with ADHD face problems in daily life that go well beyond their symptoms of inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsivity, including poor academic performance and behavior at school, poor relationships with peers and siblings, failure to obey adult requests and poor relationships with their parents. These problems are extremely important because they predict how children with ADHD will do in the long run.
Research has shown that how a child with ADHD will do in adulthood is best predicted by three things:
whether his or her parents use effective parenting skills
how he or she gets along with other children
his or her success in school
Psychosocial treatments are effective in treating these important domains. In addition, behavioral treatments teach skills to parents and teachers that help them deal with children with ADHD. They also teach skills to children with ADHD that will help them overcome their impairments. Learning these skills is especially important because ADHD is a chronic condition and these skills will be useful throughout the children’s lives.
-
Evidence-Based
Our program is built on a solid foundation of highly effective and evidence-based interventions for ADHD including parent and child education on ADHD, parent management training, cognitive behavioral therapy, and lifestyle modifications.
-
Family-Focused
Research shows that when parents are actively involved in treatment, outcomes improve dramatically. Our program is not only about helping your child learn coping strategies but also about transforming your family's understanding of your child's symptoms and teaching you how to manage them effectively.
-
Measurement-Based
Our program uses a measurement-based approach where we regularly review progress so you can understand how your child is doing. We believe ADHD treatment should be focused and time-limited, so we work with you to set specific goals and adjust our approach to help you see meaningful improvements.
Kids with ADHD can Thrive with the Right Support
Our goal is to empower both children and their families by providing them with the tools they need to navigate ADHD confidently.
-
It’s common to think that ADHD treatment would only involve the child. However, the first line of treatment for ADHD in children is Parent Management Training. Your active involvement is the key to effective ADHD management.
PMT teaches parents evidence-based strategies to manage ADHD-related challenges by reinforcing positive behaviors, setting clear expectations, and using consistent consequences.
Evidence shows that when parents implement PMT, children not only show reduced ADHD symptoms but also improve academically and socially.
Some therapists may use play therapy to treat young children with ADHD. Play therapy provides a way for children to communicate their experiences and feelings through play. Play therapy has not been shown to be effective at improving ADHD symptoms in young children.
-
As children with attention or behavior difficulties grow, these symptoms can often become intertwined with academic failure, learning problems, organizational skills difficulties, family conflict or other psychiatric issues. We use CBT and other problem-solving interventions to work with older children and teenagers to increase their awareness of and ability to manage their symptoms, also improving their interactions with parents, peers, and teachers.
One of the most important pieces of the ADHD puzzle involves cognitive reframing on the caregivers’ part. In short, kids are not giving their parents a hard time – these kids are having a hard time themselves. It is easy for parents to get stuck labeling children as disobedient or frustrating, which can trigger negative emotions, leading to unhelpful behaviors and interactions. When parents reframe the view that their child is not intentionally trying to engage in negative behaviors, their emotions tend to change to empathy. Empathetic actions impact the child, making them more motivated to work toward positive behaviors.
-
A highly effective strategy we use to bridge the gap between home and school is the Daily Report Card. This approach pinpoints specific goals for behavior in school, give kids feedback on how they’re doing, and rewards them for meeting those goals successfully. This also allows for more seamless communication with parents on a regular basis regarding the functioning of your child at school.
-
We work with middle- and high-school students to develop systems for tackling schoolwork, both organizationally and academically. For kids with ADHD, managing their time and school materials can be a huge issue — not leaving enough time to study or complete projects, forgetting to use their planner, losing track of assignments. Specific skills like studying, memorizing, note-taking, and doing assignments on time can all be addressed.
-
Diet, exercise, and sleep are the three lifestyle changes with the most scientifically proven effect on ADHD. Our program supports you in making these lifestyle modifications, such as regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and establishing consistent sleep routines.
-
While our program is anchored in evidence-based psychosocial interventions for ADHD, we know that medication can be a valuable part of ADHD treatment for some children. As psychologists, we do not offer medication management ourselves, but we will gladly help connect you with trusted community providers who specialize in ADHD medication management.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
You will start the program by completing a thorough intake assessment with your child’s provider to establish a baseline, then conduct mid- and post-assessments to capture the full impact of the program. This allows us to track positive changes over time as well as the ability to tailor the treatment to meet your child’s individual needs. When it comes to ADHD treatment, you should always know how far you’ve come and what steps to take next.
-
We have found that most children and families benefit from at least 12 consecutive sessions. However, we designed this program to be flexible and individualized so sessions can be adjusted based on your child's unique needs and progress. You can shorten treatment as needed or continue support beyond the 12 sessions.
-
Our payment model is designed to be flexible and manageable. You pay on a week-to-week basis with no long-term prepayment required. This means you can start with the initial sessions and, if needed, continue receiving support without feeling locked into a rigid package. This approach maintains our commitment to ethical care while still offering the benefits of a structured, evidence-based program.
-
As a group of Licensed Psychologists, we do not offer medication management; however, the first line of treatment for children 12 years and older with ADHD is the combination of medication and psychosocial / behavioral intervention. Therefore, we provide referrals to trusted community providers when medication is a consideration. We are knowledgeable on the role that medication can play in the treatment of ADHD, but will respect that every family has their own desired approach.
-
If additional challenges such as anxiety, depression, or learning difficulties emerge, we can incorporate targeted treatments to address them and will provide referrals for any extra services if necessary.
-
We start with an initial consultation to ensure a good fit for your family.
