Parenting Support in Tampa, Florida

We see kids as being part of a family system, and parents as integral partners in supporting children’s success. We find that a combination of child therapy and parent coaching works best in supporting most child issues. Many of our elementary school-aged clients have only been to our office once or twice - we primarily work with their parents!

Parent Coaching

We provide parents with a judgement-free space to feel more effective and empowered in their approach to parenting. We will help you better understand how your child or teenager’s developmental state may be impacting their behaviors. Parent coaching will provide you with strengths-based, attachment-driven strategies to lovingly set limits with your child or teenager, while increasing your attunement to their emotional needs. We provide you the space to process your own experiences of parenting and learn how to increase your self-care in order to allow your child or teen to borrow your calm during tantrums and meltdowns.

S.P.A.C.E. Treatment

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) is an evidence-based treatment program for children and teens with anxiety, OCD, and related problems. Our founder, Dr. Kristin Edwards, was trained in SPACE by the treatment developer, Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. SPACE is a treatment that empowers parents to support their child's ability to tolerate anxious feelings, connect with their own inner resources and become strong, independent humans.

PCIT Clinic

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence based program that gives parents the positive parenting skills to manage their child's emotional and behavioral difficulties through positive attention alone using real-time coaching. PCIT helps parents strengthen the relationship with their child, and helps children improve attention and focus, learn to cooperate, obey directions the first time, and reduce aggressive or destructive behaviors. We dedicate a full clinic to PCIT and provide in-house training & certification to clinicians.

Parent Behavior Therapy

Whether it’s tantrums, talking back or ignoring instructions, child behavior problems can be hard on the whole family. However, parents have the greatest influence on their child's behavior. In our Parent Behavior Training sessions, parents learn skills to respond effectively to their child’s behavior and keep things calm at home. As with all of our therapy services, we use highly evidence-based treatments and behavioral strategies that focus on using praise to encourage good behavior and consistent consequences when kids misbehave.

Clinical Parent Groups

There is no denying that parenting a child with challenging behavioral or emotional concerns is tough, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming and you don’t have to figure everything out on your own. Through education on child development and highly researched behavioral strategies, you can move past feeling stuck and find more peace in parenting— all backed by science and from the comfort of your own home. Our clinical parenting groups led by our child psychologists offer a short-term, convenient, and cost-effective solution to helping you and your child with challenging behaviors related to attention problems (ADHD/ADD), anxiety and OCD, sleep problems, autism, and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD).

What to Expect

We typically start with a parent consultation to hear more about your concerns and goals for working together. We’'ll review all treatment recommendations with you and help you get started on next steps whether that be paren coaching, individual therapy, or a combination of other services. For most families, weekly individual treatment lasts four to six months. We discontinue treatment when when we all agree that the child and their family has met their goals for treatment and are ready to fly independently. We’re always here if your child runs into new challenges or hurdles down the road.

Cost Per Session

Cost per session varies depending on the experience level of the clinician on our team with whom your child/family is working. The cost for all one-time initial intake sessions is $225. This session is 45-60 minutes in length and also requires your provider to spend time outside of session reviewing records and background information, and developing a treatment plan. Cost of recurring sessions following this initial intake appointment ranges from $125 to $250 per 45-minute session. Our Care Coordinator will provide you with more information regarding provider availability and fees during an initial consultation.

Details About Insurance

We are a private pay practice and do not directly bill insurance for treatment. Some benefits of paying privately include more privacy and more control in our work together. However, we’ve found that many insurance companies will cover our services as out-of-network providers. If you have a PPO, we can provide a “super bill” that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. A super bill is a detailed record of payment with special codes for what kind of service was provided along with our license number. Our Care Coordinator can call your insurance to find out what reimbursement will look like for you, if desired. If you’re hoping to find an in-network provider, Good Therapy or Psychology Today are helpful directories.
