Child Therapy in Tampa
(Ages 2-12 years)
We see kids as being part of a family system, and parents as integral partners in supporting children’s success. We find that a combination of child therapy and parent coaching works best in supporting most child issues in this age group.
When you first reach out, our Care Coordinator will hear more about your current situation and share which services will be most appropriate. During the intake assessment, you and your child’s provider will develop a treatment plan comprised of one or more of the services below, plus any additional resources or referrals specific to your family’s need.
Play Therapy
Through play, children express what they may not be able to say with words. If your child struggles with anxiety, aggression, or difficulty adjusting to life changes such as divorce or death, play therapy can help them work through their emotions, build confidence, and develop healthy coping skills in a way that feels natural to them.

Individual Therapy
We offer individual therapy for children who are experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges such as ADHD, anxiety, negative mood, low self-esteem, and emotion dysregulation. Our child therapists use short-term, evidence-based treatment approaches that focus on teaching kids skills that they can continue to use and practice after therapy is complete.
SPACE Parenting
When your child is anxious, it’s hard to know how to respond in a way that actually helps. SPACE is an evidence-based program that empowers you to reduce your child’s anxiety-driven behaviors. Our founder, Dr. Kristin Edwards, was trained in SPACE by the treatment developer, Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. If your child avoids school, has intense fears, or needs constant reassurance, SPACE gives you the tools to help them feel braver and more secure.

As practitioners who studied human behavior, emotion regulation, and child psychology inside and out, we will share information that can help you better understand how your child or teenager’s developmental state may be impacting their behaviors. Whether it’s tantrums, defiance, or constant worry, we’ll guide you to solutions that work for your family.

What to Expect
We typically start with a parent consultation to hear more about your concerns and goals for working together. We then work with kids on a weekly basis, with additional parent-only sessions every four to six weeks. We often pair children and parents with each their own therapist to maintain the trust between your child and their therapist while still being able to support parents closely. Outside of regular check ins with parents and kids about progress, we often include three to five sessions dedicated to teaching parents strategies they can use to help their child at home and school. For most kids, weekly individual treatment lasts four to six months. We discontinue treatment when we all agree that the child and their family has met their goals for treatment and are ready to fly independently. We’re always here if your child runs into new challenges or hurdles down the road.
Cost Per Session
Cost per session varies depending on the clinician’s license level. The cost for the one-time initial intake session ranges from $250-300. This session is 45-60 minutes in length and also requires your provider to spend time outside of session reviewing records and background information, and developing a treatment plan. Cost of recurring sessions following this initial intake appointment ranges from $175 to $225 per session. For more information on our fee schedule, click here.
Details About Insurance
We are a private pay practice and do not directly bill insurance for treatment. Some benefits of paying privately include more privacy and more control in our work together. However, we’ve found that many insurance companies will cover our services as out-of-network providers. If you have a PPO, we can provide a “super bill” that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. A super bill is a detailed record of payment with special codes for what kind of service was provided along with our license number. Our Billing Specialist can call your insurance to find out what reimbursement will look like for you, if desired. If you’re hoping to find an in-network provider, Good Therapy or Psychology Today are helpful directories. Find out more information about using your insurance to cover the cost of therapy.
